In another life, when magic was a welcome gift from the gods, he was a simple farmer blessed to have won the heart of the village witch. She was a benevolent soul who protected the crops with good weather and a bountiful harvest. She was lovely of face and of spirit...and in a moment of weakness, she was lost to him.
Taken in by the enchantments of a dark witch, his infidelity resulted in the birth of a new race. Cursed by his former lover, he was doomed to bear the mark of the wolf. For behaving like an animal in rut, he would become the beast at the woman's pleasure, the proud and loyal wolf so he would never have the power to stray again.
So it was that every full moon, he became the beast, and was soon exiled from his village and named the Cursed One by his people. Left to wander, he later took the name of Jacques and forgot his human life. He found a mate and raised a family, forming the first pack of true werewolves. Enemies to the vampire nobles on whose lands they hunted, war soon broke out.
After enough years, when his son was grown with a son of his own, the years finally took their toll and Jacques broke from his pack. Vanishing in the dark one night, Jacques went rogue as many wolves do when the years become too many and they prepare to welcome the beast completely, casting off the human face in favor of the animal caged within.
For a time, he was lost to the beast, living and killing in animal form. However, in the last hundred years the man has resurfaced, and the man who birthed a race now looks to try and find his place once again in a world that has forgotten the old ways...and, he hopes, forgotten the dark origins of the Cursed Ones.
